More varieties of Garnet are: Grossular, Pyrope, Almandine, and Andradite Grossular. Some are considered extremely rare or exotic.
Grossular garnet comes ranges in color from cinnamon-orange (hessonite) to pink to emerald green (tsavorite). Pyrope is a deep blood red and rather ruby-like in appearance. Almandine is a darker red than pyrope and ranges from pink red to nearly black in color. Andradite grossular ranges from yellowish-green (topazolite) to emerald green (demantoid) to black (melanite). Demantoid garnets are the most valuable of the exotic varieties and one of the rarest gemstones in the world today. Garnets can also come as color-changing or star patterned gems (when cut as a cabochon).
