A variety of garnet whose color can range from pinkish red; to a rich, velvety red with violet /pink overtones; to a raspberry red with purple overtones. High quality rhodolites are very transparent and saturated in color.
The name rhodolite comes form the Greek words "rhodon" and "lithos" meaning "rose gem." It's a combination of two types of garnet and is sometimes referred to as pyrope-almandine. These luminous purple/red gems are more lively than other garnets and carve beautifully in both large and small sizes. Rhodolite garnets are not typically enhanced or treated to achieve their rich colors - they are naturally occurring. Rhodolites are durable and affordable gems that wear well in any type of setting.
