Colorful Gems Just In Time For Valentine's Day!

Greetings Friends and Jambo! (Swahili slang "hello" greeting)

I'm back from an amazing trip to Tanzania and am excited to present both my new logo and my newly designed website to you! I will be blogging about my trip soon, but wanted to share something with you now that you could enjoy.

Please see our new site here: www.gemscapes.com.

We are extremely pleased to be able to say that it will be a continually growing and expanding endeavor that will offer education about gems and the carving process, as well as showcasing the marvelous gems you've come to expect from me.

In this time of romance and love, I am sharing three delicious heart-shaped gems and two spectacular pieces of jewelry with you in this, our first newsletter of 2009.

All my best,
Sherris

It's that time of year...
23.12ct Black Jade "Beating Heart"    23.12ct Black Jade "Beating Heart"
23.12 ct. Black Jade
(Wyoming, USA origin, unheated natural color)

 "Beating Heart"
Wyoming black nephrite jade, from which this heart is carved, is the best of the best. It takes a beautiful polish and is exceptionally durable. This gem is carved with a flat back, and will set like cabochon. It would be delicious combined with another colored gem.

24.28 mm long, 26.19 mm wide, 5.24 mm deep
 Retail price:  $900.00

"Yearning Heart"
This lovely rhodolite garnet is cut in my reversible style; both sides
are beautifully carved. It has a warm, raspberry tone and the
carved design catches and plays with the light producing a
constant sparkle. This gem will set up beautifully in either
a ring or pendant.

13.44 mm long, 14.45 mm wide, 6.16 mm deep
Retail price: $2145.00

 11.87ct Crystal Opal "Creative Heart"
11.87 ct. Crystal Opal
(Oregon, USA origin, unheated natural color)

"Creative Heart"
The floating blue highlights in this opal evoked the name
“Creative Heart.” Cut with a flat back, this heart will glow when
set against a solid black background (such as onyx or black jade),
or a solid white metal sheet.  This is an exquisite gem that
deserves an exquisite mounting.

25.03 mm long, 17.53 mm wide, 6.07 mm deep
 Retail price: $1260.00

Visionary Jewels

with .37 ct Diamonds set in 14kt White gold

 "Love Me Do"
This luscious little ring is from the wonderfully creative mind of award winning jewelry artist Tom Costigan of J. Thomas Jewelers. The vivid
color of this rubellite tourmaline can be seen clearly from across
a room. The gem is not heart shaped, but Tom's elegant ring
creates that illusion.

 Retail price: $4195.00

"Hearts Of Desire"
This lovely piece is created by jewelry artist Paula Crevoshay.
It features a truly sensational Rubellite Tourmaline that is crowned
in 18kt yellow gold with a sapphire, an amethyst, and diamonds.
