Best of the Best |

![]() 19.13 ct. Peridot (Pakistan origin, unheated natural color) |
Pakistani Periot is the most beautiful in the world - it has a richer grass green color than stones found in other locations. I was very excited to get the rough for this piece. 19.13 carats is HUGE for a Pakistani Peridot and it's incredibly rare to get a piece of rough material this large. There are some inclusions in the rounded end/pavillion side that are not visible from the top of the gem. This gem is incredibly bright and full of life due to the carving, which is a newer style I call "sunburst." 19.32 mm long, 13.05 mm wide, 10.84 mm deep |
I've had this rough material for 4 or 5 years. It was the only gem out It's a flatter design with a flat back and a flat, substantial girdle 37.40 mm long, 23 mm wide, 8.10 mm deep |
![]() 21.19 ct. Fire Opal (Oregon origin, unheated natural color) |
Featured Gems all photos are larger than life to show detail |

![]() 16.81 ct. Blue Chalcedony (Namibia origin, unheated natural color) |
This particular Chalcedony has a very pretty, stormy sky-blue color. It's translucent rather than opaque, and lights up in white metal settings. This is an exceptionally durable gem and can be put in any kind of mounting. It looks fantastic combined with other colored gems as well as diamonds and is stunning with Tanzanite. This is a big look for the price and will be easy to set with it's free form front, flat back, and nice girdle edge. 24.37 mm long, 15.26 mm wide, 8.19 mm deep |
Morganite as a rule is a pale pink but this Morganite is a deep pale pink. It's a smaller size than some Morganites from other locations but this is a fairly large size gem for a Madagascar Morganite. It's clean crisp color is maximized by the matte and bright finish. This gem is reversable and pairs well with other stones because of it's rectangle shape and neutral color. This Morganite is very 13.16 mm long, 9.54 mm wide, 5.28 mm deep |
![]() 6.11 ct. Morganite (Madagascar origin, unheated natural color) |
![]() 12.60 ct. Malayan Garnet Pair (African origin, untreated natural color) |
These Malayan Garnets have incredibly rich, deep color, With a flat profile and matte and bright finish these Garnets transmit a soft glowing light and would be glamorous as earring drops with minimal settings. A simple bezel frame would be stunning (see "The One That Got Away" at the end of this newsletter). See the larger stone that would work as a matching pendant to this set in the next newsletter! A: 14.97 mm long, 9.18-5.44 mm wide, 4.82 mm deep |
The color of this gem is a pure, clear yellow. A perfect gem for evening wear, this Golden Beryl is amazingly bright even in low lighting conditions and will glow even in moonlight. With a graceful, tapered shape and a flat edge making it easy to set with other gems, this Golden Beryl would be elegant offset 10.14 mm long, 10.64 mm wide, 7.67 mm deep |
![]() 4.56 ct. Golden Beryl (Afghanistan origin, heated to enhance color) |
![]() 7.02 ct. Rubellite Tourmaline (Brazil origin, unheated natural color) |
This is older rough that was "rediscovered" so it's a great value for the price. This gem's color is unbeatable - it looks like candy with a deep purply-pink color that's even throughout. It has minor inclusions but the color more than makes up for those. A graceful and elegant carving on a gem that's quite deep, it would be easy to set due to it's flat back. It would be beautiful in a man's ring. A Rubellite this size under $1000.00 is a pretty rare find. 13.11 mm long,11.15 mm wide, 5.88 mm deep |
It has a flat carved top with a pavillion bottom which would be perfect for a low ring setting. It's a great color, cut, and 8.88 mm long, 7.51-5.81 mm wide, 4.87 mm deep |
![]() 3.12 ct. Spessartite Garnet (Mozambique origin, untreated natural color) |
Love That Color |
|
12.31 mm long, 10.41 mm wide, 6.87 mm deep |
![]() 5.53 ct. Aquamarine (Zambia origin, heated to enhance color) |
![]() 6.65 ct. Aquamarine (Zambia origin, unheated natural color) |
Like it's sister gem above, the rough for this Aquamarine was mined in Zambia. The two gems look distinctly different however because this Aquamarine was not heat treated to drive out the yellow component of it's natural color. I personally love this shade of blue/green and search diligently for unheated Aquamarine to carve. This gem is very clean with a crisp pure hue. 14.15 mm long, 9.92 mm wide, 7.84 mm deep |

This lovely 12.46 carat Namibian Amethyst was destined to be in this newsletter but was sold as a result of our last newsletter! The client was kind enough to send us photos of the finished jewelry. He indicated that the white gold pendant was cast, and designed to make the frame disappear behind the carved Amethyst. I love it! So...if you see something in this newsletter that makes you wonder what else I have hidden away, give me a call! |
