Other types of Opal are: blue, pink, boulder (attached to the rock in which it's found), and matrix (lines or spots of opal within a gem matrix).
Blue opals have a translucent to opaque, light to medium blue/green body color that resembles turquoise. Pink opals are opaque with a pale pink color that is fairly consistent no matter where it is found. Most blue and pink opals available today come from Peru, although there are other sources. Boulder Opals often show play of color and have backgrounds of various hues. They can be found anywhere opal is found. Matrix opal also tends to show a play of color but is often dyed to enhance that appearance. Matrix opal is further classified by its original source, such as Andamooka or Yowah.
