A member of the Feldspar family, sunstone is available from many parts of the world, but none is as exciting as the copper bearing sunstone mined in Oregon, USA.
Oregon, USA is the only place in the world where sunstone with copper content is mined. Varying amounts of copper determine the color of the Oregon sunstone, which may be clear, yellow, tan, pink, red, or green and is occasionally even found as a bi-color combination of red and green. Sometimes copper forms as fine threads within the sunstone that sparkle and shine as you turn the gem in the light. This effect is called schiller, and is highly attractive. Sunstone is best set in pendants, pins and earrings.
