Green is regarded as the classical tourmaline color. The bluish/green "seafoam" variety is light and bright and tends to have better transparency than the darker green shades. Blue tourmaline occurs rarely and is not often seen on the market.
Among the green tourmalines there is a broad spectrum of available color. Some are very light while others are so dark that the green color can only be seen when the gem is held up to the light. There are light-toned mint green tourmalines as well as intense yellowish-green, olive green, brownish-green, pure dark bottle green and especially wonderful blue-green tourmalines. No matter the shade of green, the beauty of the individual gem is the ultimate criterion in value.
